Enamel Dental wants you to enjoy a healthy and fantastic smile! Our team is committed to educating our clients about the best ways they can prevent different types of cavities. Did you know there are different stages of tooth decay? Book your oral health checkup before the upcoming holidays to ensure nothing takes your smile away this season.

HOW TO PREVENT CAVITIES

Daily brushing and flossing and using mouthwash immediately come to mind. Listening to your mouth is important. It is best to address any sensitivity or issues as soon as they arise for best results. Putting off your dental appointment is easy to do. We understand how busy life can get. However, you can’t take care of anyone else until you take care of yourself first! There are plenty of additional things you can do to keep your smile radiant including:

Upgrading to an electric toothbrush

Choosing expanding dental floss

Try a Waterpik

Limiting sugary Halloween candy binges

Brushing your tongue, roof of your mouth, gums and everywhere!

Updating your medical history with us if you start new medications

Dental sealants

Maintain regular dental appointments with us

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR A CAVITY TO FORM?

Everyone is different and of course, diet and genetic factors can play a role. Many cavities are found initially on your dental X-Rays and this is one of the main reasons we like to keep your X-Rays up-to-date. Did you know that it takes quite a while for a cavity to develop? It can take months for a cavity to get to the point that it needs attention, depending on the level of oral hygiene and other contributing factors. Visiting us every six months is one of the best ways you can be proactive with your oral health.

3 TYPES OF CAVITIES

The three kinds of cavities include smooth surface decay, root decay and pit and fissure decay. Smooth Surface Decay: Generally found on the exterior flat portion of the teeth. This type of cavity forms when bacteria is not adequately removed daily and plaque bacteria builds up. Proper brushing and flossing can help prevent future cavities. Root Decay: This is the main kind of decay found in adults who often have receding gums. This type of cavity affects the roots surfaces of the teeth. Pit and Fissure Decay: This issue develops the back teeth on the chewing surfaces. It can be prevented with proper oral care and inconsistent cleaning may be the culprit.

SIX STAGES OF TOOTH DECAY

While you may decide to put off your cavity until further notice…New Look Dental in West Kelowna assures you this is never a wise decision. With over 300 types of bacteria in our mouths every day, you can understand how drastically this situation can go from a simple fix to a complex root canal in time.

Why Cavities Form In Teeth

There are a variety of factors that can contribute to a cavity or dental caries forming. Poor oral hygiene, lack of flossing and consuming sugary and acidic foods and beverages such as juice, milk, wine or pop regularly are common culprits. Is a lack of dental insurance keeping you away? Book now and pay later with our PayBright Financial Services.

Additional reasons for cavity formation include:

• Genetics
• Improper dental health education
• Not visiting the dentist regularly
• Dry mouth due to certain medications
• Not brushing your teeth for 2 minutes twice a day (and especially before bed)
• Having a bottle of milk, juice or pablum before bed instead of pure water
• Swimming in unregulated chlorine pools and hot tubs
• Grinding teeth or Bruxism
• Cracked, chipped or broken teeth can allow bacteria to penetrate

How To Prevent Cavities

Avoiding sticky, chewy treats such as toffees and caramels or carbohydrate-rich snacks such as potato chips are advised for a variety of health reasons. These break down into simple sugars over time and wreak havoc on your smile. Of course, most of us do enjoy acidic fruits, candies, and chocolates from time to time. The key is to clean your mouth adequately afterward and maintain regular biannual checkups with us!

Upgrade Your Oral Hygiene Gear

We are happy to recommend different products to simplify and enhance your oral hygiene. From electric toothbrushes with built-in timers to special anti-bacterial mouthwashes for advanced cases and expanding dental floss; our courteous and professional team is always ready to answer all of your questions or concerns. It is delightful when clients heed our advice and everyone can see and feel the difference in their future appointments!

Will Cavities Get Worse?

We monitor your teeth, gums, tongue and oral mucosa to ensure that any invasive bacterial issue is treated before it turns into gingivitis or periodontal disease. It is never too late to visit your West Kelowna dentist! Putting off issues due to sensitivity, discomfort, bad breath or embarrassment will likely only compound the problem.

Cavities can take years or months to form…they do not develop overnight. Learning how to care for your smile is something we are passionate about sharing with every client. Let New Look Dental help you find your smile again!

How Cavities Are Formed In Teeth

Biofilm, plaque bacteria and food and drink residue can destroy the outer, protective layer of enamel that surrounds each tooth. Once your enamel layer is gone, it is gone. We, unfortunately, do not regenerate this hardest substance in our bodies; hence, prevention and protection are key. After this layer is missing, decay can set in and essentially bore away at your tooth.

Can A Decayed Tooth Be Saved?

Catching cavities when they start is ideal and yes, we always prefer to save your original tooth if possible. If the decay is left untreated, it can travel down to the root of the tooth and create an abscess. Even at this stage, a root canal or endodontic therapy can potentially save your smile. If the decay is too deep, or the rest of your tooth is too damaged, a dental extraction may be recommended.

Education Is Key

While it can be tempting to lie to yourself and decide that you will “deal with this later,” or “chew gum every day to mask your decaying dragon breath,” there IS a better way! Book a cleaning with New Look Dental and get the facts you need for your smile, your oral health and your entire body to succeed.

Did You Know…?

After all, our oral health affects much more than simply our smile. Swallowing copious amounts of bacteria daily can affect your heart and may even be linked to Alzheimer’s Disease and memory problems. Ensure you are giving your system the best chance to radiate health and happiness by maintaining your regular dental checkups.

Book A Cleaning With New Look Dental Today!

We’ve got awesome hours and ample parking for you and your family.

We are located in central West Kelowna behind Superstore on Old Okanagan Hwy. Visit us to get the low down on your smile and caring, helpful advice you can trust.

Happy Holidays from all of us at New Look Dental!

If you’re wondering, “what is dental fluoride?”, you’re not the only one. This odourless and colourless salt has many uses in our society but is rarely discussed in-depth.

Fluoride is a natural mineral found throughout the earth’s crust and is widely distributed in nature. It can be found in water, soil, plants, rocks, our food and even in the air.

Due to its ability to increase bone mass, it is also produced synthetically for use in drinking water, toothpaste, mouthwashes and various chemical products.

It has also been used as an experimental treatment for osteoporosis.

Fluoride and Health Benefits

Fluoride has many health benefits, one of the primary benefits being that it promotes new bone formation. This benefit of fluoride has been extensively researched since the 1930s.

In the 1930s, researchers found that people who grew up drinking naturally fluoridated water had up to two-thirds fewer cavities than people living in areas without fluoridated water.

This observation has since led to fluoride intentionally being used in drinking water and in dentistry.

How Is Fluoride Treatment Used in Dentistry?

Dentists apply professional fluoride treatments to help patients who may be at risk for cavities.

These professional fluoride treatments are applied with a swab, brush, tray, or mouthwash in the form of a highly concentrated rinse, foam, gel, or varnish. Kids often opt for a flavoured fluoride treatment.

What Is Dental Fluoride Used for in Dentistry

Dental fluoride can help prevent cavities by strengthening tooth enamel.

When bacteria in your mouth break down sugar and carbs, they produce acids that eat away at the minerals in your tooth enamel. This loss of minerals is called demineralization. Weakened tooth enamel leaves your teeth vulnerable to bacteria that cause cavities.

Fluoride helps to re-mineralize your tooth enamel, which can prevent cavities and reverse early signs of tooth decay.

What Is Dental Fluoride: Its Effects on Children

Fluoride concentrates in the growing bones and developing teeth of children, helping to harden the enamel on baby and adult teeth before they emerge.

If your child’s main source of tap water is not fluoridated, your child’s dentist may prescribe fluoride supplements. These supplements come either as drops or tablets and are taken orally. The amount of fluoride that is prescribed is based on the child’s age and amount of fluoride in their drinking water.

It’s important for your family dentist to be aware of your child’s fluoride intake before prescribing fluoride supplements. If your child has too much fluoride, this can increase your child’s risk of getting dental fluorosis.

Dental fluorosis is the appearance of faint white lines or streaks on the teeth that only occurs when younger children consume too much fluoride, from any source, over long periods when teeth are developing under the gums. Once a child’s adult teeth come in, they are no longer at risk for dental fluorosis.

Fluoride Toothpaste and Fluoride Treatment

If your drinking water is fluoridated, then brushing regularly with fluoride toothpaste is considered sufficient for adults and children with healthy teeth who have a low risk of decay.

However, if your community’s water is not fluoridated and does not have enough natural fluoride in it (1 part per million is considered optimal), you may be at a risk for tooth decay.

Other factors that may put you at a risk for tooth decay include:

High sugar-intake

Taking medications that increase dry mouth

Old age

Genetics

Poor oral care

If you are at high risk for tooth cavities, your dentist may give you a professional fluoride treatment at the dental office or prescribe you fluoride tablets or drops to take daily at home.

Catching tooth decay during its infancy is ideal. When we can treat the problem before it causes any grief or tooth pain when chewing, we are able to prevent the cavity from spreading. If the bacterial infection gets into the pulp of the tooth and close to the nerve, it can become nerve-wracking.

Clients are often disappointed to hear they need a root canal instead of a simple filling because they put off their dental work for too long.

The stages of tooth decay are:

First Stage = White Spots

Second Stage = Enamel Decay

Third Stage = Dentin Decay

Fourth Stage = Pulp Involvement

Fifth Stage = Abscess Formation

Sixth Stage = Tooth Loss

Most minor fillings are fixed within a few minutes. We offer a variety of sedation techniques at New Look Dental to keep you happy and relaxed during your appointment.

There is topical freezing we can apply before the needle with medicine is given to numb a portion of your mouth. Even if you require a more extensive endodontic procedure such as a root canal, you will be in and out of the chair in no time!

When Can You Eat After A Filling?

Our team is committed to providing clients with everything they need for a successful procedure before and after. Your mouth will be frozen for up to a couple of hours after the procedure.

Eating and chewing during this time are not recommended as you can easily bite your tongue. Pre-planning by eating ahead of time if possible or relying on soup broths or protein shakes afterward are great options.

Filling out a medical history form for a dental office is important for many reasons. A medical history form allows the dentist to be well-informed about any allergies or health conditions you may have. With this type of form, you can also list your medications and any previous surgeries you’ve had.

Although many patients prefer to keep this information private, the dentist needs to know this information in order to keep you safe and to know the best course of action for your dental health.

If you’re not entirely convinced that your dentist needs to know all facets of your medical history, keep reading to understand why it’s important to fill out a medical history form as accurately and completely as possible.

Medical History Form for Dental Office: Medications

Why is it important for dentists to know all your medications? This is a commonly asked question.

Some medications you take on a regular basis may impact your course of dental treatment. In the scenario that you require medication before, during, or after a dental procedure, the dentist needs to know the medications you take so that he or she can prescribe you a medication that won’t have a negative interaction with your regular dose of medication. There are also some medications that have negative interactions with certain types of anesthetics; the type of anesthetic you are given before dental surgery may depend on medications you’re on.

Improving Oral Health

Also, if your dentist knows what medications you’re using, this can help them improve your dental health; certain medications can be the underlying cause of many dental issues. For example, some medications cause dry mouth and dry mouth not only increases the risk for cavities but can also lead to gum disease. Without treatment, these conditions can lead to a root canal or tooth loss.

A dentist will never tell you to stop taking your medication because it causes dry mouth, but they will keep a closer eye on any changes in your oral health and may suggest for you to come in more frequently. Some vitamins and natural remedies can also have negative side effects on your teeth and gums.

To keep your safety in check and determine the best course of action, the dentist needs to be informed of any and all medications you are taking.

Health Conditions Highlighted in Medical History Form for Dental Office

Implications for Immune System

Some health conditions like diabetes, and some medications like steroids, reduce the effectiveness of your immune system. Poor immunity could be the underlying cause of any oral health issues you may have, and this would be beneficial for the dentist to know.

It’s also important to have a healthy immune system before a major dental procedure. A healthy immune system can help fight off infections and if the surgery puts you at risk for infection, your dentist may prescribe you an antibiotic (that doesn’t have any negative interactions with medication you’re currently taking).

Dentists also never want to put their patients in a position where their health and immunity could be compromised. Before surgical dental procedures, it is best for the patient to have optimal health and for the patient to let their dentist know otherwise.

Periodontitis and Increased Health Risks

Informing your dentist of health conditions can also help them better understand your oral health and monitor changes in tooth health more closely. Patients with heart disease tend to be more susceptible to periodontal diseases. In some studies, it has been suggested that periodontal disease-causing bacteria has the potential to play an active part in making the heart disease worse in a patient and increase their risk of heart failure.

Similarly, patients with diabetes are also at a higher risk for periodontal disease. Patients with diabetes also have an increased risk for wound infection post-dental surgery and their gums take much longer to heal after any type of dental procedure. Therefore, it is very important for your dentist to know your history of diabetes, so that he or she can prescribe adequate medication to decrease your risk of infection post-surgery.

Have Artificial Parts? Add This to Your Medical History Form for Dental Office

Some patients with artificial parts need to take preventive antibiotics before certain dental procedures are performed. For example, patients with an artificial heart valve may need to take an antibiotic prior to certain treatments to help prevent a serious infection from occurring.

Another situation where a patient may need to take a prescribed antibiotic before a dental procedure is if the patient has had a knee or hip replacement. Patients who have a history of joint replacement may have to first undergo a cycle of antibiotic prophylaxis before the dental treatment begins.

The relevance of this treatment is that it helps to eliminate any oral bacteria from entering the bloodstream so that it does not adversely affect the new joint. Therefore, it is imperative that you give your dentist full information about any such surgery that you may have undergone in your medical history.

Medical History Form for Dental Office is Kept Private

All information on your medical history questionnaire is kept strictly private and is protected by doctor-patient confidentiality meaning, it will not be shared with anyone outside your dentist office without your permission.

Sometimes your dentist may wish to speak with your family doctor or medical specialist to get more details about your medical situation. If your dentist needs to consult with your doctor or another health-care provider, this will be discussed with you first.

Medical History Form for Dental Office at Best Dentist in Kelowna

At the risk of sounding redundant, it is extremely important for you to complete your medical history form for dental office as accurately and completely as possible. It is also as equally important to update your dental medical history form whenever there’s a change in your health or prescribed medications.

Last week I had the opportunity to visit Straumann’s Milling Centre in Arlington, TX and to listen to one of their top speakers, Alexander Wünsche, CDT and owner of Zahntechniques in Miami, FL. Check out Alexander’s Instagram! It all started on Thursday night where we had the chance to meet colleagues from all over North America to discuss the new and old ways of our profession. Being one of the youngest dental lab owners I sat back and listened to what everyone had to say, but quickly realized that age doesn’t matter in the fast-changing environment of dental laboratories. It doesn’t matter if you are a lab rat for 20+ years waxing up most of your life or are part of the PlayStation generation that got into digital dentistry a little sooner. We all came to the conclusion that it is an absolute must to hop on the digital train as well as to integrate your knowledge of analog techniques in the dental lab industry.

ALEXANDER WÜNSCHE’S LECTURE ON DIGITAL WORKFLOWS AND CERAMIC DENTAL LABS

Friday morning started with what I was most excited about, Alexander’s lecture on digital workflow and where you fit in as a ceramic dental lab. Listening to Alex made me and most of my colleagues understand that what we had discussed the night before; how to keep your custom dental lab running well. It doesn’t matter if you are a three-person boutique lab or a big production laboratory. If you have never waxed a tooth how can you design it in a CAD software? If you don’t know how to articulate stone models how do you want to set up a full arch on a virtual articulator? Many practices I learned in dental college that I thought would be forgotten are actually making a comeback, and I’m more than happy about it. If we use what we have learned in analog and we combine it with the digital workflow, we have an even bigger opportunity to explain the different dental lab restoration options for patients. When a patient is a heavy bruxzir and needs a crown on a molar you don’t have to prescribe them a full contour zirconia crown with 1500 mP just because it’s fast, cheap and tooth coloured. The strength of a natural tooth is 130 mega Pasquale. What do you think will happen to the opposing tooth over time when you know the patient is grinding their teeth extremely hard?

A full gold crown might not be the fanciest way to restore the situation but in a case like this, it may be a better solution. The patient doesn’t know any of that and I feel it’s our duty to tell them what options are available and maybe most suitable for their case. That’s what I’ve thought lacked a little bit in the past. When we looked around in our field everything and everyone is focused on easy, fast and efficient. Don’t get me wrong I do want to run my business as efficient as possible but I think I have to take a different approach to not lose sight of the bigger picture: The patient. I’d rather spend a few extra minutes listening to patients talk about what their teeth looked like when they were 22 or how they love Julia Roberts’ smile. That is information that can make your restoration stand out and they will tell their family and friends about the experience you provided, rather than produce a generic crown that gives you the “looks good” or “ah, it’s in the back” response. In today’s world customer feedback travels so fast through the internet. You only have one chance to prove that you can deliver what the clinician and patient want without them knowing.

AFTERNOON SESSIONS AT STRAUMANN’S MILLING CENTRE

The afternoon was equally exciting. The shuttle picked us up and drove us to Straumann’s Milling Centre. It was immediately clear this company runs a tight operation. Seeing how fast robots pick blanks and fill the mills is incredible. From the moment I send a custom abutment design from our Kelowna dental lab to the team in Arlington to get milled, it takes roughly 24 mins. To accept the file and feed the robot takes six minutes and total mill time for a titanium abutment is 18 minutes. I was so engrossed with the entire production that I almost missed my flight. But even in a case like that, you see how professional the company is and stands behind you. Event manager Chad Gagnon didn’t think twice to organize a private ride to the airport for me to make my flight. So if someone says their implants are better or stronger or prettier or whatever it is, I can say, maybe they are (most likely not) but there is more to trust a restorative dentistry company. Being a Straumann customer makes me feel at ease. This company knows what it is talking about and it walks the walk. From all of us at Schack Dental Labs, thank you, Straumann for an incredible experience to all of you who made this so enjoyable. Source: Schack Dental Labs

Erupting third molars or wisdom teeth can wreak havoc on your smile, even if they are coming in perfectly straight. Many people simply don’t have enough room in their jaw to accommodate four more giant molars in their early twenties. Dr. Sandy Crocker is one of the most experienced oral surgeons in the Okanagan. Discover more about oral surgery and wisdom teeth extraction, what to expect below:

Wisdom Teeth Removal Consultation

Dr. Sandy Crocker and the caring team on Springfield Road invite you to book your oral surgery consultation. After reviewing X-Rays and your medical history, we will discuss your personal treatment plan. We will explain which types of sedation are available and make a recommendation. Some clients opt for conscious IV Sedation and others may consider oral sedation. Feel secure knowing that you will remain comfortable and relaxed throughout your procedure regardless. We recommend having someone drive you to and from our clinic on the day of your procedure and will provide you with complete pre and post-operative care instructions. Educating our dental clients on what to expect, what issues may arise and how to facilitate the best healing environment is a large component of the consultation visit. We are happy to answer questions regarding any aspect of the procedure and wisdom teeth removal cost etc. Ensuring our clients have all of the information ahead of time is something our clinic is passionate about.

Wisdom Teeth Removal Procedure

As questions and concerns were addressed during your consultation, surgery day is organized and relaxed. We are prepared ahead of time in the event the root of the wisdom tooth is situated close to a facial nerve or impacted and trying to grow in sideways or crookedly. You will feel so much relief once the tremendous pressure on the jaw or surrounding molars is surgically addressed. Untreated wisdom teeth can erupt and cause misalignment of existing teeth. Some clients may experience eruption at different times and choose to have one or two wisdom teeth removed as they come in, while others may take all four in one sitting.

Education Reduces Dental Anxiety

Reviewing X-Rays and answering your questions and concerns ensures everyone is on the same page so there are no surprises. For example, some people’s wisdom teeth need to be cut into pieces to be removed. We often have an indication if this may be necessary when we look at the X-Rays. When clients know what to expect ahead of time, there is often less dental anxiety. Once the extraction is complete, gauze will be used to initiate clotting and help stop the bleeding. It is vital to understand the dangers of dry socket and how necessary it is to allow the clotting process to occur. When clients understand they will need to deal with the taste of blood in their mouth temporarily, it is much less alarming.

Wisdom Teeth Removal Aftermath

Knowing how to care for your mouth after surgery can help ensure your wisdom teeth extraction is a positive experience. We recommend booking your surgery during some holidays or when you can rest and not have to worry about travel or speaking. Avoiding sucking motions with your mouth from smoking, drinking through a straw etc. is an important part of your healing process. It is possible to remove a clot this way and open up your wounds for potential bacterial invasion. Having soft foods on hand such as soups, puddings, oatmeal and items you can eat with a spoon is a great way to encourage healing.

Have you used your dental benefits for the year 2018? It may be in your best interest to book an appointment with your West Kelowna dentist before the end of the year. At New Look Dental, Dr. Kevin Andersen and his team will take time to understand your dental needs and work with you to find the best dental procedure before your dental benefits expire. In an effort to help you get the most out of your dental benefits, we’ve compiled the top reasons to use your dental benefits before the year is up.

Save Money on Your Dental Procedures

The majority of dental insurance plans will restart when the clock strikes midnight on December 31st. Using your dental benefits before the year ends will save you a significant amount of money. Dental insurance companies bank on earning money from patients who never use their insurance benefits. Most dental health insurance plans provide coverage up to a certain dollar amount annually. Insurance companies aren’t going to encourage customers to use the maximum benefits, and most patients are too busy to determine the remaining amount. We recommend taking the time and checking to see what benefits you have remaining before year end. If you require some assistance, contact our team at New Look Dental office and we will be happy to assist you in obtaining this information.

Treat Dental Issues Before They Worsen

Delaying dental treatments will often lead to more expensive treatments, especially if they’re left for an extended period. Using your dental benefits now will prevent you from potential complications, tooth pain or expensive procedures. If you have any coverage left this year, call New Look Dental to schedule an appointment. We can take care of any cavities and other minor issues before they become bigger and require more expensive and invasive dental procedures.

Maximize Monthly Premiums

Do you require any dental procedures and have unused benefits? Use them up before the end of the year. Minimize your out-of-pocket expenses and maximize your dental benefits before the year ends at New Look Dental in West Kelowna. Dental insurance plans typically charge you a monthly premium. They also typically have a yearly maximum for dental benefits and a monthly premium. Every dental benefits company will have a different maximum, so contact New Look Dental or your dental benefits company to find out if you’ve used all of your dental benefits. Once the new year rolls around, you’ll lose your remaining balance.

Predeterminations & Dental Procedures

Booking any extensive dental procedures that require multiple visits before the new year may save you hundreds of dollars. Why? Dental insurance plans require us to send predetermination requests to your dental insurance company before we begin. Delaying dental issues often results in more expensive and extensive treatments. Using your dental benefits now will prevent you from potential complications, tooth pain or expensive procedures. If you require any extensive dental procedures that involve multiple visits and haven’t hit your annual maximum, book an appointment at New Look Dental today. The sooner we send your predetermination request, the sooner you can begin your dental treatments.

Call New Look Dental at 250-768-7671 to set up your appointment today in West Kelowna before your dental benefits expire. We’re always happy to accept new patients.

Experience that dentist-clean feeling every day when you upgrade your manual toothbrush to an electric model. The rechargeable battery-operated spin brushes offer superior plaque removal and excellent gum stimulation. Manual toothbrushes rely on continuous wrist and hand movement to complete brushing properly. This is much more labour intensive than relying on a quality electric toothbrush. Capri Dental in Kelowna discusses the benefits of upgrading to an electric toothbrush:

Some toothbrushes have a sensor that alerts when brushing too hard.

Studies show an increase in plaque removal of 21% after 3 months.

Gingivitis has been reduced by 11 % after 3 months.

Less hand and wrist mobility required with electric toothbrushes.

Certain models have a built-in brushing timer and digital reminders of when it is time to replace the head.

Remove More Bacteria From Your Mouth

The technology features pulsating, rotating, oscillating bristles that can sweep along the grooves of the teeth and the gum line to delicately and efficiently remove plaque bacteria. Many people love the way these brushes offer a thorough clean. Simply hold the electric toothbrush in place and let it work its’ magic from tooth to tooth. It is excellent for brushing your tongue and all surfaces. The gentle stimulation provided to the gums helps to enhance blood flow to the area. Healthy circulation to your oral tissues is an important factor for keeping your smile healthy. Our team can recognize which clients have taken the leap from manual tooth-brushing to electric options. It is amazing to see the smile benefits from one dental appointment to the next!

Arthritis & Mobility Sufferers Love The Electric Toothbrush Upgrade

Many individuals who have arthritis in their fingers, hands and wrists find daily brushing tedious and even painful. Electric toothbrushes help you to maximize your cleaning capacity with less physical requirements. It can be tricky to brush back and forth and in circles with a manual toothbrush when there are mobility factors involved. People tend to brush for the recommended two minutes or longer due to the built-in timer technology and the fact that they only have to hold and guide the brush but the spinning brushes remove the bacteria more effectively. It can be difficult to keep track of how long you have been brushing and fall into your old, less thorough routine with a manual brush.

From Grandma to the Kids, Your Family Will Love Brushing Their Teeth Even More!

Electric toothbrushes come in a variety of models and price points so everyone can experience better oral health. Kids can have fun seeing who’s timer goes off first and parents don’t have to dread treats before bed any longer. Teaching kids the proper brushing technique, how to slowly move their spin brush from tooth to tooth and along their sulcus and gum line will dramatically improve your family’s smiles. Brushing the tongue and roof of the mouth, along with the gums is equally as important as cleaning your enamel. If toothbrushing has become a hassle at your house, it is definitely time to upgrade and rejuvenate the situation. Right around Halloween is an excellent time to make the switch for better oral health.

Capri Dental Cares About Your Smile

Our caring team wants you to have the best line of defense for your precious smile. Visiting your dentist twice a year and maintaining excellent oral habits at home are essential components to your entire health and well being. Our smile affects our entire body’s health. If you are swallowing all of that plaque bacteria instead of brushing it away and spitting it out, that is very hard on your system. Dental plaque has been linked to a host of health concerns including cardiovascular issues, pregnancy complications, memory problems and much more. Help your family keep their oral health in top notch shape but ensuring you have the right tools to complete the job.

Book Your Dental Checkup With Capri Dental Today!

We would love to check on all facets of your smile and your oral health. Regular comprehensive dental checkups show us which areas may need more help and if any locations in your mouth are being accidentally neglected. All too often, we don’t know there is an issue until we experience discomfort or pain. Maintaining your regular dental visits with us will help us monitor your smile and educate you on where improvements are recommended. Brushing and flossing every day is the best way to be proactive in your oral health. We invite you to book your next appointment with us! Source: Capri Dental

Learning about your oral health and how to proactively maintain a healthy, happy smile is vital to your entire well being. The caring and professional team at Burtch Dental enjoys educating our clients to help them understand which symptoms and warning signs need to be treated. Once you obtain optimum oral health, it is essential to know how to maintain it at home, in between your dental appointments.

Oral Health Symptoms

Our mouth and the oral mucosa is a sensitive environment. It is essential to take excellent care of our oral health to ensure our entire system is not exposed to bacteria we are digesting. Improper brushing, flossing and swishing with mouthwash to remove biofilm and sticky plaque on a daily basis can lead to us ingesting this detrimental substance instead. Burtch Dental cares about all facets of your smile. We can easily irritate our teeth, gums and tongue in a variety of ways including:

Brushing too hard with our toothbrush

Eating and drinking hot beverages and burning the mouth

Canker sores

Bacterial overload from lack of flossing

Gingivitis and periodontal disease

Updated X-Rays

Dental X-Rays are the best way to obtain a view of underlying issues. Identifying gum disease, cavities, certain types of tumors, fractures, impacted teeth and oral infections is vital to the integrity of your smile. This technology captures a picture entirely different than what is visible to the naked eye. Catching oral issues in their infancy enables us to act fast and discuss our options. Having instant visuals to share with our clients can help us explain the problem and create a treatment plan before symptoms have a chance to progress. Viewing how close an impacted tooth or abscess is to your root enables streamlined treatment options.

Regular Dental Checkups In Kelowna

When dealing with bacteria or dental discomfort, time is of the essence. Don’t put off your root canal, filling or oral hygiene appointment any longer. Burtch Dental has the general dentistry solutions you and your family rely on. Regular dental checkups are the best way to keep your medical chart up to date. If you notice any puffy or swollen gums, bleeding during brushing or flossing, or anything different in your mouth, it is wide to check on it as soon as possible to feel better and address the issue.

Be An Advocate For Your Oral Care

We invite you to bring your dental questions or concerns to your next dental appointment. Enjoy the peace of mind that comes with understanding your oral health and well-being. Discovering how to make proactive choices with your oral care routine, which products will suit your smile and proper flossing technique can all play a huge role in keeping your mouth healthy in between appointments. We take great care in explaining all of our dental procedures so that our clients know what to expect. Much of dental anxiety is related to the unknown. We believe that our clients deserve to know the details of their case. Our team is committed to your complete comfort and care.
