I was inspired to pursue a career in dentistry by job shadowing my childhood dentist. I saw patients entering the office – individuals, families – young to old. It was so clear that each of these patients were not just a mouth, but a human being – body and mind. They came with anxiety, special needs, in the midst of a busy day, or just relaxed with trust knowing they were in good hands. Watching the appointments, I saw the fine detail to the technical parts of the job an all the interpersonal aspects of the day together. This suited many of my personal interests.

UBC Dental School enlarged the picture with scientific study of dental materials, human anatomy along with all the technical dentistry, and the artistry involved in the clinical work. It was there I met Dr. Angelyn Salaberry, and we grew a friendship also based on passions for the outdoors and mountain biking. We graduated together in 2000 and headed to separate paths for the next few years.

I completed the UBC General Dental Residency especially enjoying the aspects of hospital and emergency care, as well as my introduction to Oral Oncology. Dental aspects of caring for cancer patients became a passion that brought me back home to Kelowna, as I knew I would like to continue with this in my career.

For 15 years, I have served patients at the SAHCancer Centre for the Southern Interior, as well as private practice here in Kelowna. When I had my first of two daughters, Angelyn returned to Kelowna to take over my maternity leave, and this turned into a meaningful partnership that would last until present day.

I have studied with the Kois Center for post-graduate comprehensive dental education since 2003. After graduating in 2011, I furthered my commitment to learning and teaching by becoming a mentor in 2013. The Kois Center has changed my life and I am so grateful to the mentorship and friendships through that centre that have helped me to grow as a person and professional.

I have been placing implants since 2007 after completing all surgical-based implant courses at the Ickert Teaching centre. I love this aspect of restoring health and function to areas that no longer support natural teeth.

The only aspect of dentistry I have not loved is owning a business. When the opportunity to practice with Dr. Brent Corlazzoli, as well as continuing my career with Angelyn and the staff we adore, I knew it was the future for me!

I practice everyday thankful for the knowledge I have gained and the trust that patients continue to place in me and our team. My very favourite things in dentistry are the parts that lead to overall health improvement, and the dental work that you can’t even tell is there.
